Blood and Oil

As we continue in our fourth year of occupation in Iraq the U.S. government still refuses to admit the real reason for invasion. We have an Iraqi civilian death toll over 500,000 (even by conservative estimates) and U.S. military deaths that outnumber the victims of 9/11.

Every reason we were given for invading Iraq has proven to be incorrect. We have found no WMD’s and no connection between the Iraqi government and the 9/11 attacks (this was confirmed by General Petraeus in his report to congress). We claim to want to bring Iraqi people freedom even though opinion poll after opinion poll show that they do not want us there. You can not force democracy on people.

It is time to admit that we are in Iraq for our own selfish interests. We are there to attempt to make Iraq a democratic power that can help Israel and Turkey protect American interests in the Middle East. Whenever people talk about “interests in the Middle East” it means they are talking about oil. Our stubborn refusal to accept the will of the Iraqi people or the will of the international community only magnifies our fanatic desire to protect our oil interests.

It is time to stop OCCUPYING Iraq to protect oil interests. It is time to bring our troops home.
