From our President…
Friends,
Some of you have requested that we send these out earlier in the week to allow you more advance notice on our activities, and I want you to know that you are 100% correct and I had one all set to go on on Monday, but then some intereresting “developments” happened with our planned speaker, so we had to scramble. But I am dedicated to getting out the info earlier, so look for that in the future.
NEWS, ANNOUNCEMENTS, EVENTS, ETC.:
THURSDAY MEETING:
Tomorrow’s speaker with be Robert Aager, who will be speaking on school vouchers and the vote on them coming up in November that could change the way Utah does public education. Come and join in on the conversation!

For those Office fanatics out there, we will put the Office up on the projector post-meeting, so you can stick around and we can all embrace this obsession together!
REID VISIT:
- First, a thousand thanks to all of you who came to the meeting, asked great questions, and proved a warm and respectful audience (probably the best he had all day). We received compliments from all the administrators that were there, so you made a great impression.
- Second, PICTURES: All the pictures taken at the meeting are up on our website at www.byudemocrats.org. Find yourself, download your pic, upload it on facebook, start the revolution.
CITIZENSHIP TEST PREPARATION CLASS:
- This is last minute, but we have one more session of the U.S. Citizenship Test Preparation Class we are helping run with Dr. Stiles tonight, 6:00-8:00pm, at Dixon Middle School, which is located on the corner of 800 West and 200 North. We’ll be doing review tonight and will need a lot of help, so if you can come we can definitely use you!
OTHER INVOLVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES:
- Legislation Committee: If you are interested in helpling us research and promote legislation, both locally and nationally, this committee’s for you! This will likely involve research, interfacing with legislators, drafting proposals, and perhaps becoming famous when we help change policy!
- Service Committee: We are really committing ourselves to doing service that will improve our community. Some projects we’re looking at involve sending letters to BYU students serving overseas in the military, organizing a food collection system with BYU Dining Services, working with Hispanic immigrants, voter registration drives, and anything else we can come up with.
- Debates Committee: If you are interested in helping to promote political discussion via organizing debates, participating in debates, starting discussion groups, etc., let us know!
If these appeal to you, send us an email at president@byudemocrats.org, or come talk to us at one of our meetings/events.
DEMOCRATS LUNCH DISCUSSION GROUP:
- We thought it might be fun to arrange a time for all those interested to meet in the Wilk, on the quad, or somewhere else on campus to eat lunch at discuss topics of interest to us progressive-minded folks. Let us know if you’d be interested in doing that, and what time/day would work for you.
OK, that’s about it. We’ll send you exact details on tomorrow’s speaker as they arrive. ‘Til then, have a fantastic day.
Darren
