The Latest on Torture
I thought this article was really interesting and frustrating. In short:
1) The U.S. Intelligence Chief calls waterboarding torture.
2) We are reminded that Attorney General Mukasey won’t say whether waterboarding is torture or not.
3) The CIA has destroyed videotapes showing Al Qaeda members being tortured.
4) The House has passed a bill banning the CIA from using harsh interrogation techniques (Including torture, already banned by the Geneva Convention) which will soon be vetoed by Mr. George W. Bush.
These are some of the reasons I stopped wanting to work for the CIA.
So this begs the question, which candidates when asked have said they consider waterboarding to be torture? John McCain, Mike Huckabee, Joseph Biden, Chris Dodd, Dennis Kucinich, Bill Richardson, John Edwards, and Barack Obama. Other candidates have either refused to state their position or stated that they do not believe waterboarding is torture. If this is wrong, please let me know.
These are also some of the reasons I can’t support certain candidates.
